Independant 3rd Party Inspections
Recent changes (in March 2011) to the Australian Standard AS2550.1 have introduced some important new requirements for the safe use of cranes, hoists and winches.
One of the most important amendments is the requirement that each crane shall undergo a periodic third-party inspection to provide independent advice on whether the level of maintenance and repairs are in accordance with this Standard. (See para.7.3.4). AS 2550.1-2011 defines a third party inspection as an inspection carried out by an independent competent person, who is NOT involved in the maintenance of the crane. The intention of this requirement is clearly to introduce much needed accountability and quality control into the maintenance process for cranes/hoists, which we support unreservedly, and believe is in the best interests of crane owners, and crane operators.
A second important amendment is that the remaining Design Working Period (DWP) or safe working life, should be determined annually, in conjunction with the Third Party Inspection. Where possible our Third Party Inspection will include the assessment and reporting of the DWP.
Australian Crane Parts & Service specialises in the provision of Third Party Inspections and has the necessary extensive experience and technical training to be deemed competent for this important function, as required by the standard.
