Section 9 in AS 2550.1-2011 describes the need for the Design Working Period (DWP) of a crane to be monitored during its working life. Paragraph 9.3.2 states that DWP assessments should be carried in conjunction with (annual) third party inspections, and must be conducted by a competent person.

The purpose of the assessment of DWP is to estimate accumulated duty of the crane and assess its remaining safe working life.

Where the DWP is unknown and has not previously been assessed in accordance with the Standard, a major 10 Year (for mechanisms) or 25 Year (for structures) Assessment must be carried out by a competent person.

A DWP assessment will include both:

a) a theoretical part, where the remaining design life of each component of the crane is analysed based on the duty estimation; and
b) a practical part, where physical inspections of all critical components and systems of the crane are inspected for integrity and functionality.

Australian Crane Parts & Service specialises in the provision of 10 Year and 25 Year Assessments for Continued Use and has the necessary extensive experience and technical training to be deemed competent for this important function, as required by the Standard.

At the completion of a 10 and/or 25 Year Assessment, you will receive a very detailed and high quality written report, supported by a comprehensive photographic record of the physical inspection of the crane.
